    KolorPearl Chameleon - Dark Green, 100 grams, 400 micron = 0.4 mm

    Specifications:

    • Size: 400 microns – 0.4 mm
    • Color without sunlight: dark green
    • Visible colors in sunlight: light green, dark green
    • Standard mixing ratio: 25 g/1 L of clear coat/clear base
    • Weight: 100 grams/package

The pearlescent pigments are mixed with a clear coat or a transparent base. They can be sprayed in multiple layers. You must allow a longer flash-off time between each layer. A base color in the same shade is typically used as a foundation for the pearlescent pigments, but this is not a rule. You can view the photo gallery here.

    Preparation and Spraying Process:

The process of applying chameleon pearlescent pigments involves mixing them with a clear base and then applying this mixture over a base coat. Spray in thin, even layers using a spray gun with a recommended nozzle size of 0.8–1.7 mm (depending on the size of the pearlescent pigment). After achieving the desired coverage and the layers have cured, the surface is protected with additional layers of clear coat to create a deep, glossy, and sparkling effect. Proper surface preparation and a consistent spraying technique are essential for a successful and even application.

    1. Surface Preparation:

    • Sand the base coat/primer: For new applications, first apply a primer or base coat. If you are spraying over an already painted surface, roughen it with P240 sandpaper to ensure the new layer with pearlescent pigments adheres better.
    • Clean the surface: Before applying any paint, make sure the surface is clean and dust-free. Degrease it with an anti-silicone agent.

    2. Mixing the Paint and Pigment:

    • Mix the components: In a container or disposable cup, mix the pearlescent pigments with a clear base or clear coat. Follow the specific instructions in the technical data sheet for the clear base or clear coat, as the ratio of pearlescent pigments may vary.
    • Add thinner or hardener: After mixing the pearlescent pigments with the clear base, add the thinner in the specified ratio. After mixing with the clear coat, add the hardener and thinner in the specified ratio to achieve the correct consistency for the spray gun.
Ensure even distribution: Mix the blend thoroughly to ensure the pearlescent pigments are evenly dispersed throughout.

    3. Spraying the Pearlescent Pigment Layer:

    • Use the right equipment: A spray gun with a suitable nozzle size is required (0.8–1.7 mm, depending on the size of the pearlescent pigment).
    • Layer application: We recommend doing test sprays before the first application. For direct application, apply thin, evenly overlapping layers. The first layer may only provide partial coverage. Apply 3 to 7 layers, depending on the desired final effect. Adhere to the flash-off times between layers as instructed in the technical data sheet.
    • Shake the gun during spraying: Regularly shake the spray gun or paint cup to prevent the pearlescent pigments from settling at the bottom.
    • Complete the finish: Continue applying layers until you achieve the desired coverage and effect. This creates the depth and luster of the final finish.

    4. Finishing the Process:

    • Paint drying: Allow the paint to dry sufficiently.
    • Apply a final clear coat: Once the pearlescent pigments have dried to the required level for clear coat application, apply one or more clear layers to protect against wear and enhance the gloss.

    Tips and Maintenance:

    • Regular mixing: Thoroughly mix the blend before each spray session to prevent the pigments from settling at the bottom of the container.

    • Base color: For the best effect, use a base color in a similar shade as a foundation.

    • Spraying: Never allow the pearlescent pigment paint to dry completely before applying the next layer, as it may peel later. Adhere to the instructions in the technical data sheet for the clear base and clear coat, including their flash-off times. The pearlescent pigment paint must not be wet but must be touch-dry and very tacky so that the next layer can be applied.
