Spray in thin, uniform layers using a spray gun with a recommended nozzle of 0.8 – 1.7 mm (depending on the size of the pearlescent pigment). After achieving the desired coverage and the layers have cured, the surface is protected with additional layers of clear coat to create a deep, glossy, and shimmering effect. Proper surface preparation and a consistent spraying technique are essential for a successful and even application.

1. Surface preparation:

• Sand the primer/base coat: For a new application, first apply a primer or base color. If you are spraying on an already painted surface, scuff it with P240 sandpaper to allow the new layer with pearlescent pigments to adhere better.
• Clean the surface: Before applying any paint, make sure the surface is clean and dust-free. Degrease it with a silicone remover.

2. Mix the paint and pigment:

• Mix the components: In a container or a disposable cup, mix the pearlescent pigments with a clear base or clear coat. Follow the specific instructions in the technical data sheet of the clear base or clear coat, as the ratio of pearlescent pigments may vary.
• Add thinner or hardener: After mixing the pearlescent pigments with the clear base, add thinner in the required ratio. After mixing with clear coat, add hardener and thinner in the required ratio to achieve the correct consistency for the spray gun.
  Ensure even distribution: Mix the mixture thoroughly to ensure the pearlescent pigments are evenly dispersed throughout.

3. Spraying the pearlescent pigment layer:

• Use the right equipment: A spray gun with a suitable nozzle size is required (0.8 – 1.7 mm depending on the size of the pearlescent pigment).
• Layer application: We recommend doing test sprays before the first application. When applying directly, spray thin, evenly overlapping layers. The first layer may only provide partial coverage. Apply 3 to 7 layers, depending on the desired final effect. Follow the flash-off times between layers according to the instructions in the technical data sheet.
• Shake the gun while spraying: Regularly shake the spray gun or paint cup to prevent the pearlescent pigments from settling at the bottom.
• Finish the top coat: Continue applying layers until you achieve the desired coverage and effect. This will create depth and gloss in the final finish.

4. Finishing the process:

• Paint drying: Allow the paint to dry sufficiently.
• Apply final clear coat: Once the pearlescent pigments have dried to the desired level for clear coat application, apply one or more clear layers of clear coat to protect against wear and enhance the gloss.

Tips and maintenance:

• Regular mixing: Before each spray, mix the mixture thoroughly to prevent the pigments from settling at the bottom of the container.

• Base coat: For the best effect, use a base color in a similar shade as the base coat.

• Spraying: Never let the pearlescent pigment paint fully dry before applying the next layer, otherwise, it may peel later. Follow the instructions in the technical data sheet for the clear base and clear coat and their flash-off times. The pearlescent pigment paint should not be wet, but must be dry to the touch and tacky enough for the next layer to be applied.
